From 28-30 August 2019, the 11th International Symposium on Biological Monitoring in Occupational and Environmental Health took place in Leuven, Belgium. This meeting is organized by the Scientific Committee of Occupational Toxicology (SCOT) of the International Commission on Occupational Health (ICOH), in collaboration with other ICOH’s Scientific Committees, like SC Nanomaterial Workers’ Health, the SC Toxicology of Metals and SC Rural Health. A couple of Modernet members were present also.
The symposium brought together scientists, experts, practitioners and students in biological monitoring to discuss and share state-of-the-art knowledge on biomarkers of exposure, effect, and susceptibility to occupational and environmental agents. ISBM-11 presented new research and methods on biomarkers and promoted the use of biomonitoring data as part of a prevention strategy in workplaces and the general environment. The conference dinner took place at the impressive De Hoorn Cafe (this is the former Stella Artois building, so no prizes for guessing our social theme!).
