Modernet Chair Lode Godderis was present at two meetings in Barcelona, meeting up with our member Consol Serra at her university. His short report:
On February 20 and 21, 2019, two important events took place in Barcelona. Dr. RocĂo Villar Vinuesa, occupational health physician working at the Servicio de Salud Laboral, Parc de Salut Mar and at the Centro de InvestigaciĂłn en Salud Laboral, Universitat Pompeu Fabra presented successfully her Doctoral thesis on the pregnancy and paid work, in which she investigated the relation between working conditions and different forms and causes of absence from work during pregnancy in a cohort of healthcare workers.
The day after a meeting was organized in remembrance of dr Jordi Castejón, a well known and respected occupational health physician, who dedicated an important part of his professional career on the detection and recognition of Occupational Diseases. During the conference different regional, national and international examples of project and approaches to detect and follow-up work-related diseases were presented.  During the meeting, our report on Alert and sentinel systems for the identification of work-related diseases in the EU was presented. The discussion afterwards led by Consol was very animated and I experienced a strong will to collaborate closely with the curative, public health and social sector. The approaches presented were innovative and could certainly inspire other countries.
